Program Overview

MOUNTAINEER POSITION CAMP
The camp is designed to help players from grades 6-12, in the perimeter and post positions they play for their team while focusing on the development of their skills.

POST PLAY: Learn from assistant coach former all-conference player Brandon Wilson.

ALL INDIVIDUAL CAMPERS WILL RECEIVE: 
• Camp basketball
• Camp T-shirt
• A written evaluation

HOOP HEAVEN TEAM CAMP
This camp is for high school teams on the varsity, junior varsity and freshmen levels. Leagues will be formed reflecting the size and playing level of your team to ensure competitive games.

Camp Features:
• At least 8 games in 3 days • Camp T-shirt
• Plenty of competition

Additional Information:
• Held at Paul Wright Gym - the highest collegiate gym in the world - and at Mountaineer Field House
• Special situation games
• Camps run in conjunction with Mountain Man Basketball Officiating Camp
• Coaches socials

Cost:
Option A: $200 per individual camper, which includes room and meals
Option B: $400 per team with no rooms or meals

 

MOUNTAINEER BASKETBALL DAY CAMP
June 17th – 18th 
GRADES K-8 Boys & Girls
DIRECTED BY:   Western Basketball Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, & Mountaineer Players
Times:  9:00AM – 12:00PM
Cost:  $60 Pre-Registration/$65 Walk-up 
Walk-Up Registration:  8:00AM-9:00AM June 17th
Where:  Paul Wright Gym

The Mountaineer Day Camp is designed for younger campers and beginners that have an interest in basketball.  The camp will cover all the fundamentals and include different games and competitions.

Every camper will receive:  

  • A Camp Basketball
  • A Camp Shirt
  • Written Evaluation

Program Description

The Hoop Heaven Team Camp will run in conjunction with the annual Mountain Man Basketball Officiating Camp. The officiating camp is under the direction of Chuck Nissen, a veteran official on the high school, junior college and NCAA Division II level.

Most varsity games will be officiated by three-person crews. The officials will be evaluated without any interruption to games.

TEAM BUILDING: RAFTING
If you choose to come to both the Mountaineer Position Camp and Hoop Heaven Team Camp, you can use Friday morning to go rafting on the Gunnison River or Taylor River as a team-building experience.

Program Detail

HEAD COACH BRADD SCHAFER 
Coach Schafer just finished his eighth year at the helm of the Mountaineers. A 2001 graduate of Western, he returned to Gunnison after eight years with Black Hills State. There, he spent four years as head coach and ran one of the largest team camps in South Dakota. Schafer was a four-year letter winner as a Mountaineer and led the RMAC in 3-point shooting percentage his senior year. 


ASSISTANT COACH BRANDON WILSDON 
Coach Wilson just completed his second season with the Mountaineers. Wilson played at Fort Lewis from 2016-18 where he averaged 9.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Prior to Fort Lewis, Wilson played at Otero Junior College for two seasons.
