Program Description

Skills, Drills, & Small Area Games  - Group #1 (9-12-year-olds) (2014-2017 Birth Years)

The age groups we will work with within these camps will be 9 -12 years old. As we all know, players under ten must work on fundamentals and skills in a fun learning environment.  The skating covered will include working on edges, striding backward and forward, crossover skating, stopping, turning, quicker starts, and transitional skating. Puck skills like passing, stickhandling, and better control will be covered in full detail. All of these skills will be taught in full detail. After the skills are improved, the staff will demonstrate how to apply these skills in game situations, using small-area games and hockey-specific drills.

ATTENTION GOALTENDERSEvery RMHS camp offers professional goaltending instruction from one of our coaches. We limit these spots to four goaltenders per group.

Shooting, Scoring, & Conditioning Camp -  Group #2 (13-17-year-olds) (2009-2013 Birth Years)

The full spectrum of the RMHS-developed stickhandling progression, from basic dribbling to advanced puck control concepts such as puck protection and creating space, will be the foundation for this camp. Also covered in depth during the stickhandling portion will be passing lanes, vision, play away from the puck, support, and the proper execution of advanced fakes and dekes. All conditioning drills will be based on the European Training Method, which incorporates pucks into all skating drills to ensure the development of appropriate puck control skills and habits. Fundamental knowledge of training one's body properly for athletic competition will be discussed, emphasizing the importance of proper work-to-rest ratios, hydration, and optimal physical conditioning. Advanced powerskating drills will also focus on developing speed and power during training.

In this camp, we will cover the correct diagnosis and response needed for game situations such as cycling, odd-man rushes (both for and against), power play and penalty kill, movement through the neutral zone, defensive zone coverage, offensive zone coverage, face-offs, playing away from the puck, offensive and defensive play at the puck, back-checking and fore-checking.

Our eleven year old son really had to work. It was a great environment and a wakeup call from a long history of summer camps. He was grateful for the professional coaching and help from the staff. We will definitely sign up for next year.
